Jacqueline Byrne

My practice moves between independent and collaborative projects, with work exhibited in the UK and internationally. It continues to evolve, with a new body of work taking shape. Working across installation, sculpture, photography, film and directly in the landscape, I am drawn to memory, materials and quiet changes around us. A work might begin with a fading memory, marks left on wood, stones moved by the sea, or the effects of weather and time. Natural and reclaimed materials often find their way into the work, with chance and the elements playing a part. Some pieces are exhibited; others remain where they were made, gradually being reabsorbed into the landscape. Subjects range from deforestation and environmental change to experiences closer to home. Lost – A Journey Through the Fragile Mind grew from conversations with my mother as dementia affected her memory. Currently I am returning to painting, developing works shaped by movement, emotion and the physical act of painting. With echoes of landscape and life, layers of colour and texture meet with objects, offering more to discover for those who choose to look a little longer.
