Marc Yeats

Marc Yeats is a painter and composer whose work is shaped by the close relationship between these two disciplines. Entirely self-taught, he explores the expressive possibilities of sound, colour, form, texture, and surface, drawing inspiration from geological processes, land and seascapes, and the unique resonances of place. Working in oils, acrylics, and mixed media on paper and board, Yeats is based in Somerset, England, with a studio at Crepe Farm, Symondsbury, near Bridport. Although rooted in sea and landscape, his paintings are not representations of specific places. Rather than working from life or photographs, he develops images from sketches, memory, and prolonged engagement with locations, creating bold, gestural works that evoke atmosphere, structure, and remembered experience. Alongside his visual practice, Yeats is an internationally recognised contemporary composer whose music has been performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Hallé Orchestra, and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. He is also the author of several books on composition and artistic practice, including a recent collection of over 230 poems reflecting on his life as both painter and composer.
