Open Now: Drawing on Dorset
21 November 2024
23rd November 2024 - 23rd March 2025
Drawing on Dorset is the latest exhibition in the Drawing Room at The Sherborne, celebrating the county as a source of inspiration for artists.
In 2019, Dorset Visual Arts presented Drawing on Dorset, an open-call project which invited submissions from artists who make drawings in, of, or about Dorset. A launch exhibition at the Fine Foundation Gallery at Durlston Country Park also saw the publication of a book of the same name with essays by Tania Kovats and Professor Anita Taylor as well as accompanying statements from the 35 selected artists. The exhibition then toured around the county, providing artists and audiences with a chance to contemplate and engage with this essential component - the catalyst - of creative investigation.
The project sought to celebrate a variety of approaches to the notion of drawing; to present observation, recording and enquiry, with a collection of individual perspectives bound by the common thread of the county - its character, culture and contours, expressed and captured through thought and line.
The Drawing Room at The Sherborne now gathers together a selection of some of the original participants with new works which continue to explore Dorset as a place of inspiration and enquiry for artists to react and respond to.
