Artist Spotlight - Siân Cann

Artist Spotlight - Siân Cann

Our Droves & Downs bursary recipients have been busy exploring the area and researching into their chosen subjects. We will be highlighting the artists over the next few weeks before sharing a look into what they have been working on.

This exciting new arts and landscape project, in partnership with Cranborne Chase, will enable the four artists to create new work inspired by and focused on the National Landscape.

Siân Cann is an experimental analogue photographer whose recent focus has been on revealing the elemental stories of the world around us through cameraless techniques and the exploration of fluid dynamics. She uses a tactile, visceral, and playful process guided by her senses and intuition as a visually impaired artist.

Siân Cann shares “I am looking forward to creating imagery in collaboration with the landscape of Cranborne Chase, and particularly in immersing myself in its river systems and chalk streams to discover the secrets that they have to share, unveiling tales of fragile beauty and natural resilience”

The project will culminate in a group exhibition at Shaftesbury Arts Centre in November 2025 showcasing a diverse range of work exploring the multifaceted ecology and heritage of Cranborne Chase.

Droves and Downs is a Dorset Visual Arts project, part of the DVAtions programme. We would like to thank Dorset Council for their generous support with Culture and Community Funding.
