Functional and Artistic Woodturning
I started woodturning in 2006 after buying a lathe on eBay. Fortunately my work in the woods on a local estate meant I had access to lots of interesting wood and there is also a very helpful and inspirational woodturner living in the village. It is one of the most satisfying feelings you can get to take a half rotten moss covered log and find a striking bowl or pot lurking within. Many of the pieces I have turned have literally come from the firewood pile on the farm and I am always on the lookout when I am cutting logs. All the wood I use is grown locally, I have no desire to turn any imported timber, there is enough variety in this country to last me a lifetime.
