Emblems of Hope, Natural Anatomy

profile picture

My independent creative and cultural activities began at an early age nurtured with books, music and visits to galleries. An Art Foundation course in Bristol, was followed by a BA in Fashion Design and Textiles at Kingston University, and some years later an MA in Painting at Wimbledon School of Art. I have exhibited locally, nationally and internationally, independent of the 'Art World', creating my own opportunities, working and collaborating with fellow artists. Most recently, 2014 - 2022 alongside my studio practice I managed the Gallery at Centrespace in Bristol, providing opportunities for artists to exhibit and promote their work. My current paintings are composite imaginary landscapes, layered from elements, either invented or observed in different places, sometimes creating an unsettling atmosphere. I have recently become interested in the anatomy of trees and how their configurations can suggest twisted limbs and strange contortions that sometimes arouse in me feelings of sadness and melancholy.
