Woodturning/ stickdressing.
After retiring from farming with mobility problems , I took up woodturning as a means of relieving boredom , but more importantly allowing me to demonstrate , to a wide audience, the beauty of the wood contained within our local trees . I produce organic and functional pieces that highlight the rarely seen beauty bestowed by Nature , using only wood from dead , or storm damaged trees or as a result of necessary surgery . This is a truly sustainable resource , enabling me to promote our own trees and woods , and highlight the fact that it is on our doorstep , is undervalued and more importantly is not depleting foreign forests and creating a negative footprint by being imported. I also make walking and working sticks using the age old craft of stickdressing . This continues from my farming days , as an inherited skill , when our shepherds crooks were made by ourselves. NB.
