Contemporary abstraction
I work with acrylic, sometimes incorporating collage, and occasionally with oils and cold wax. My current interest is in an exploration of colour and texture, often constructed via a grid or stripe composition. Art was my obsession as a teenager. However life took me in a different direction until I commenced a new career as an art historian and lecturer. I hold a PhD in History of Art (Winchester School of Art/University of Southampton) and I subsequently published widely and spoke at many international conferences. Following my retirement as Emeritus Professor of Art History at The Arts University Bournemouth, my focus now is entirely on my painting and I was encouraged that my first entry to a juried exhibition was successful (the inaugural ‘Dorset Open’, 2025).
