Contemporary Encaustic Wax & Mixed media

profile picture

Exploring the exciting properties of encaustic beeswax has been my passion for several years. First used by the Ancient Egyptians as a painting medium, it saw a resurgence last century and has continued to flourish. It is still relatively unknown in Europe, but once discovered, never forgotten. My work in encaustic wax includes abstraction, seascapes, photo-encaustic, bas-relief wax casting and some encaustic collograph printing. The method of application is like no other. Molten wax is layered on a surface and fused to create a solid, durable surface which can be polished to a high gloss. Colour and images can be obscured and forever hidden, or scraped back to reveal an earlier time. For me encaustic wax is the perfect painting medium. My inspirations are many. Life, my environment, nature’s patterns and decaying landscapes. I offer personal tuition in Contemporary Encaustic Wax Painting from my studio on the beautiful and historical Isle of Portland in Dorset, UK. I am always happy to discuss personal commissions, and welcome visitors. Just get in touch!
