Kevin Moore
Painting & Printmaking
Kevin Moore studied BA (Hons) Fine Art at Hull School of Art and completed Postgraduate studies in Art & Design Education at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Early in his career, he was selected as one of ten emerging artists to represent the United Kingdom in Germinations, a prestigious European group exhibition held in Lyon, Bonn, and Breda. His work has also been recognised with awards from the Atkinson Gallery in Somerset and Leicester Museum & Art Gallery. Before dedicating himself fully to professional practice as an artist, he spent 28 years as an art educator, holding senior roles including Head of Art and Head of Creative & Expressive Arts. This extensive teaching career continues to inform his reflective and process-driven approach to painting. Deeply inspired by the surrounding Dorset landscape, Kevin often works en plein air, relishing the immersive experience of capturing a sense of place directly from nature. Working predominantly in oils, Kevin’s current practice centres on the visual and emotional tension between scale and subject. His large-scale paintings of small, often posthumously depicted wildlife examine the overlooked and fragile elements of the natural world, presenting them as monumental and reverent. Through the interplay of expressive, confident brushwork and delicate forms, his work engages themes of impermanence, mortality, and ecological awareness. By elevating these ephemeral creatures into iconic representations, Kevin invites viewers to reflect on the transient beauty of life and our deeper connection to the ecosystems we inhabit. Kevin’s studio is located in the heart of Dorset, England, near the National Trust’s Hardy’s Cottage in Thorncombe Woods. Visits can be arranged by email to view his artwork and discuss his current practice.
