After studying Art and Design at Dartington College, I trained as a potter at the Briglin Studios in London. I later worked at the Moorcroft Pottery in Stoke on Trent as assistant to their designer. I have had my own studio since 1994. Although there are discernible themes in my work, no two pieces are identical. This work is hand thrown from earthenware clay. I draw directly into the surface using a sgaffito technique. The depth and tone of the decoration is created by painting many layers of ground oxides onto the dried pot. Each piece is fired twice.
