JULIE McCabe
Julie is a mixed media artist based in the coastal town of Weymouth, Dorset, where she has lived for the past 30 years. Originally from Coventry, Julie’s creative journey has developed over time to include a deep love for recycled textiles, hand stitching, and time worn objects. As a mature student, Julie earned a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art, a milestone that further shaped her thoughtful and process-led approach to making. Her present work draws on the meditative qualities of mindfulness, words, asemic writing, textiles & slow stitching, using repetition, texture, and quiet detail to create pieces that are both personal and reflective. Julie is passionate about the connection between creativity and mental wellbeing. Her practice champions a free-form approach to the soothing, grounding properties of mindful handwork and promotes creative-making as a restorative act of self-care and calm. Alongside her personal practice, Julie has worked as lead artist on community projects, where she brings people together through shared creative experiences, encouraging connection, expression, and healing.
