Harbours and Landscapes

JULIE ADLARD Biography I have painted for many years and studied Combined Craft Design at South Bank University and Advanced Ceramics and Painting at Kingston College. My inspiration comes from love of nature, landscapes and harbours of the South West of England as well as places from my travels. My work is bright and bold and has a naivety that makes you want to smile. I have an intuitive use of colour and use it to create work that gives an emotional response to a place and the harbour scenes especially create a feeling of nostalgia and homecoming. Having studied ceramics and painting at art college I wanted to use both mediums in my work.I am really interested in surface texture and work in mixed medium so use air drying clay and fabrics to create collage paintings. The shapes of the buildings and boats are cut from clay and adhered to the canvas together with other materials. Then they are over painted using acrylics and glazes which gives vibrancy to the work and brings the subject to life. The tactile element of clay and texture and printing possibilities really brings a landscape or harbour to life, and makes the painting much more than a 2 dimensional object. I love to share my knowledge and teach workshops on the clay collage technique and demonstrate to art clubs and societies. I have had success in both joint and solo shows in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West London. I am currently represented by Artistry Gallery in Henley on Thames, Fowey River Gallery in Fowey and The Picture House Gallery Padstow.
