Jo Burchell
Jo studied fine art at Central Saint Martins, London, then after a break as a professional yachtswoman she returned to Dorset to sculpt. Her work is figurative and energetic. Using unwanted wires and metals ranging from barbed wire to copper and steel she draws her subjects in air, capturing the flow and poise of bodies in movement. This freedom of line and mark making is also evident in her drawings and paintings. She works in a studio at home and past pieces and those in progress are often dotted about the garden. Because commissions form a large part of her work Jo welcomes visitors and is very happy to go out to view potential sites and discuss ideas. Jo was commissioned by Blandford Town Council to create a commemorative steel tree for the Jubilee last year. It is "planted" in the Woodhouse Gardens in Blandford Forum. Jo is now running 3 day courses for a small number of people, incorporating drawing from life then translating that into 3D and helping people get going on their own piece of sculpture.
