Jeanette Smith

Painting and drawing work

profile picture

I have loved the ‘idea’ of drawing, since childhood. I only started actually drawing and painting much later and am self taught. My current work is predominantly illustration work for children’s books. I also write children’s books. For this area of work, I have completed courses with Julia Donaldson (BBC Maestro), on writing picture books and with The Good Ship Illustration, on illustrating picture books. You can see my illustration work on my website at https://daisysmiff22.wixsite.com/jeanettesmith My favourite mediums are acrylic inks, pen and ink, graphite pencil and acrylic paint. I also love making simple painted, wood decorations and also, occasionally, still like to work in watercolour. Most of my early work was in that medium. In the past, I have experimented and created mixed media pictures that include organic matter, plastics and other materials, in order to illustrate my work about environmental pollution. I have also done some clay decoration making and embroidery work. I love the simplicity of Japanese style art and have been told that some of my own ‘fine art’ work style captures this to some extent. I have worked with a lot of gold, including gilding, in the style of Ogata Korin. You can still see my earlier gold and gilding work, which is still on pinterest. My account is artbynet. See what you think. (Also in folders on @artbynet on Facebook). My love and passion for nature, my garden, saving wildlife and the planet, leads to me painting a lot of subjects from the world around me. I have taken part in Dorset Art Weeks twice, first in 2021 and the following year, 2022. I have also exhibited at The Library Harbour Café, in Weymouth, during Open for Art 2019. And at Salisbury Medical Practice, with Plain Arts Salisbury. Here’s hoping I get to see you either in person, at an artisan market (at Gillingham and Shaftesbury in Dorset) or future Dorset Art Weeks or online, soon. My You Tube channel is artbynet, which you can find by using the You Tube search bar, typing in artbynet or by copying this link https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCBMFGIZHmTeRc8iVn8JfGIw You can also find me on Facebook and Instagram, both @artbynet I am also on Substack as Net (Net’s substack).
