Jan Alison Edwards – BIO 2023 Discovering the art of paper-making in the studio of Maureen Richardson many years before studying Ceramics to Post Graduate Diploma at Cardiff College of Art. Developing a personal methodology and work practise based on conceptual ideas around the polarisation of human kinds relationship with nature, working in nature with nature creating a dialogue between the artist and the natural environment. Choosing the medium: particular plants adding natural pigments, earth, sand, minerals and found natural objects from the site relevant to the concept. Combining traditional and modern eastern and western papermaking and fibre techniques which become a catalyst in communicating strong and potent messages. The artist’s chosen form has evolved over her career from the Artist Book form towards multiple 3D installation, using unconventional techniques and materials to engage the onlooker in a dialogue with nature. Creating series after series of small to medium pieces including sculptures which build up and create a narrative. Jan Alison Edwards 2024
