Giles Droop

profile picture

Amateur artist Giles Droop is a retired geologist who lives in Dorset. He was born and brought up in the west of Scotland and is interested in the natural world. He was a university lecturer at Manchester for many years but in 2014 retired and moved south, at which point he rekindled his love of painting. He has had no formal art training. He paints mainly in water colour and produces mostly landscapes, with a particular fondness for mountain and coastal scenes. He is also attracted by geometrical compositions featuring boats, buildings etc and generally favours a reduced palette of colours. From time to time he produces abstracts which tend to feature vaguely natural forms. He is a member of the Maiden Newton Art Group.
