Elizabeth Sayers

Textile Landscape Wall Hangings

profile picture

After years of working as a Management Consultant, Elizabeth trained as a Textile Artist. She studied part time for 7 years at East East Berkshire College in Windsor, graduating in 2007 with a Higher Education Diploma in Stitched Textiles. Since graduating she has been exhibiting and selling her work through galleries and at exhibitions. What started as a leisure interest became an obsession and is now a fulfilling way of life. Elizabeth's textile wall hangings are elegies to our precious natural landscape. She uses fabric and thread to evoke the sense of place that comes from the shape, colour and texture of hills, valleys, fields hedgerows and woodland.. Her inspiration comes from walking in the countryside at different times, seasons and weathers, contemplating the play of light and shadow. She aims to distill the essence of that experience to its simplest elements of light, shade, line, and colour. She has developed a range of experimental printing and dyeing techniques to create her images. these are built up on a range of silk and other fabrics which are then cut, layered, quilted, and stitched repeatedly. At every stage in this long, meditative process she reconnects to the landscape and renews that sense of place. Her pieces also represent an inner landscape; they are her emotional response to the natural world. If you would like to commission a piece inspired by your favourite landscape, please contact her. Elizabeth will be happy to come and look and talk. She also gives public talks about her work and the methods she uses. You can make an appointment to see Elizabeth's work via the contact details on the website.
