Elaine Collett
My mixed media drawing is predominantly monochrome, linear, strongly tonal, often employing text and mono print. My painting is driven by colour, each piece starting with an idea and a gestural mark triggered by memory and develops its own character and identity, always a balance between ‘formal visual language’ and expressive energy. My environment is rural, agricultural, green; punctuated by dominant oaks standing solitary in fields and rising proudly from hedgerows. This landscape, these trees are my inspiration alongside the inevitable hinterland where pastoral landscape meets manmade despoilation; the casual juxtaposition of discarded debris, scattered through fields and littering verges.
