Debby Kirby

No profile picture

Debby Kirby is a renowned silk weaver with a love of colour and texture and has been a resident maker at Walford Mill Crafts in Wimborne for over 30 years. Debby hand dyes every thread to best reflect her inspiration, something she usually finds in her home county of Dorset or from her holidays in France, Spain and New York. The silk is then handwoven into sumptuous scarves, accessories, interior accents, and, most recently, woven pictures; Debby has invented a unique method of weaving photographs and paintings, a practice that has led to collaborations with a number of artists and photographers. For Dorset Art Weeks, Debby will be showcasing a new collection of scarves for men and women alongside a new collaboration of woven paintings with artist Manda Beeching. Visitors to her atmospheric workshop can watch Debby weave her distinctive silk pieces whilst listening to her explain the creative process and answer any questions you may have. The sound of her Harris countermarch loom, which many have described as the ‘heartbeat’ of Walford Mill, can be heard throughout the historic building, which is now a venue for contemporary craft.
