Debbie Lee

profile picture

Debbie Lee is a painter/printmaker based in Dorset. Debbie Lee’s art work is figurative and surreal. Her figures often illustrate emotional states. Her art explores childhood, and the role of play in developing the self, influenced by observations of her children. Characters in Lee’s pictures are often in transition, on the threshold of emerging into adulthood. The theme of ‘hiding and revealing’ led to a body of work exploring the role of the magician’s assistant and the illusionist, and how the mind works under the will of others (Levitation). Debbie Lee’s work plays with unconscious juxtaposition of ideas so literary ideas can often inspire vivid imagery; last year she was invited to take part in the curated group show The Art of the Unusual exhibition at the Allsop gallery, Bridport. Her artist’s books have been collected by the British Library. Debbie has shown regularly in the RWA open exhibitions and in the Mall Galleries and Bankside Gallery exhibitions. She also exhibits her prints and animations internationally. Debbie Lee 2018
