Barbara Wagner
I learned to draw while studying illustration and later, during my art-based teaching degree, I became hooked on printmaking. My practice is driven by experimentation, by each new layer responding to the previous one. I love colour and by exploiting the unique characteristics of different printmaking techniques, I try to balance the painterly and the more graphic. I start with an idea, drawing on experiences, the natural world or the human form and my prints are mainly unique one-off monotypes or monoprints. I never tire of the suspense when lifting the press blanket to see the new print.
