Barbara Davis
Barbara's recent work explores marks and traces left behind by humans, animals and objects. Her current fascination is with doorways. As people and objects pass through to another place, doorways capture a piece leaving a trace one on another. Paintings are made in the studio after much consideration and with reference to many sketchbooks containing memories and references of things that have captured her imagination. Distilling the drawn, seen, remembered image to a more abstract form to give impact. Materials are acrylic, collage, graphite and oil pastel, scraped into and applied using brushes and any mark making tool to hand, on canvas or paper. In earlier work there were vibrant colour combinations but recently a more subdued palette is being explored.
