Annabel Wilson
My work consists of using Shibori resist techniques to produce landscapes and plant forms on textiles. I create images by “drawing” clean lines and simple forms onto the fabric. Each piece is finished entirely by hand; images are drawn, stitched, pulled-up, all to create a resist in the fabric, and then dyed. The stitches are then removed to reveal the complete image. Natural plant dyes or synthetic dyes are used on silk, organic cotton, wool and linen. Once the shibori process is complete, the patterned fabrics are transformed into textile lamps, lampshades and wall-hangings. The effect of the light shining through the finished design creates a wonderful soft glow in the space, a beautiful addition to any interior. I run successful workshops teaching shibori-resist dyeing and the use of natural plant dyes
