Commission for Site Specific benches at Durlston Country Park NNR, Swanage
Dorset County Council are seeking an artist or maker for the HLF-funded Durlston Pleasure Grounds Project at Durlston Country Park National Nature Reserve in Swanage, Dorset.
The ‘Durlston Pleasure Grounds’ Project will enhance the Victorian landscape at Durlston for nature, history and people.
The artist, in consultation with the Project Team, will design, produce and arrange delivery of a total of 5 benches, to be installed by the Project Landscape Contractor at agreed locations on the South West Coast Path at Durlston.
When George Burt designed the Pleasure Grounds, he wanted to encourage visitors to ‘Look Round and Read Great Nature’s Open Book’, using art, science and bold architectural statements.
Therefore, we wish to commission contemporary, bespoke exciting seating installations which have a presence of architectural merit, in keeping with the environment they sit in. These should be long-lasting, usable by a wide range of people including children, older people and people with disabilities and encourage relaxation and contemplation of a superb historic and natural environment.
A maximum budget figure of £33,000 has been allowed for design, production and delivery of benches to site. NB: This will need to cover any additional consultancy costs (for example, expenses for scoping studies and concept designs by artists). A schedule of payments would be agreed on appointment.
Shortlisting will be based on written applications from artists and panel interview.
For an informal chat, or to receive a copy of the detailed brief, please contact Ali Tuckey (Project Leader) on 01929 424443 or email [email protected]
Closing Date for applications 5pm 5th December 2018. Interview dates for shortlisted candidates will be between 6th and 17th December.Back
